What it is
Indoor and Porch Ceiling Fan Installation in Charleston
In the Lowcountry, a ceiling fan isn't decoration. It's how you stay comfortable for a big part of the year, indoors and out on the porch. A fan that wobbles, hums or hangs from a box that wasn't built for it is more than annoying; it's a safety issue.
We install ceiling fans on properly rated fan boxes with the right bracing, assemble and balance them so they run smoothly, and wire them for the control you want: a wall switch, separate fan and light switches, a wall control or a remote.
We can replace an existing light with a fan, swap an old fan for a new one, or add a fan where there's no ceiling box yet. That includes damp- and wet-rated fans for covered porches, lanais and outdoor kitchens.
Signs
Signs You Need a Ceiling Fan Installer
Call us when:
- Your existing fan wobbles, clicks or hums
- You're replacing a light fixture with a fan
- There's no switch to control the fan and light separately
- The porch fan is rusting or wasn't rated for outdoor use
- You have a high or sloped ceiling that needs a downrod
- You want fans added in several rooms at once
Options
Types of Ceiling Fan Installations
The right fan and mount depend on the room and the ceiling:
Indoor Ceiling Fans
Standard and low-profile fans for bedrooms, living rooms and offices, with or without light kits.
Best for: Most rooms with 8- to 10-foot ceilings
Outdoor and Porch Fans
Damp- and wet-rated fans with sealed motors and weather-resistant finishes for covered porches and patios.
Best for: Lowcountry porches, lanais and outdoor kitchens
Vaulted and High-Ceiling Fans
Fans hung with the right downrod and an angled mount for sloped or two-story ceilings.
Best for: Great rooms and vaulted ceilings
Fan Replacements and Upgrades
Swapping old fans for quieter, more efficient models, including DC-motor fans and smart controls.
Best for: Older fans and noisy motors

Timing
How Long It Takes
Replacing a fan or light with a new fan on an existing fan-rated box usually takes a couple of hours. Adding a new box, bracing, a new switch or working on a high ceiling takes longer.
Many homeowners have several fans installed in one visit.
Pricing
How Much Does Ceiling Fan Installation Cost?
Fan installation is quoted by the job. What affects the price:
- Number of fans
- Whether a fan-rated box and bracing need to be added
- Ceiling height and the need for a downrod or scaffolding
- New wiring for separate fan and light switches
- Indoor vs. outdoor location
- Fan assembly complexity
Tell us how many fans and where, and send a photo of each spot if you can. We'll quote the install.
Local know-how
Ceiling Fans for Charleston's Climate
Charleston's long, humid summers make porch fans a staple, from the deep porches in Mount Pleasant's Old Village to the screened porches in Summerville and James Island. Outdoor fans need to be rated for the location; an indoor fan on a porch will rust and fail early in salt air.
Inside, a properly sized fan running in the right direction can make a room feel noticeably cooler and help your air conditioning go further.

After the job
Care and Maintenance
Dust blades every month or two during heavy use; buildup throws fans out of balance. Switch the fan direction seasonally: counterclockwise in summer for a cooling breeze, clockwise on low in winter.
If a fan starts wobbling or making new noises, turn it off and have it checked. Loose mounting hardware is a safety issue.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan?
Usually, yes. We'll check whether the existing box is rated for a fan and replace it or add bracing if it isn't.
Can the fan and light be on separate switches?
Yes, if there's room to run an additional wire to the switch location. Wireless wall controls and remotes are another option.
Do outdoor fans have to be special?
Yes. Covered porches need damp-rated fans and exposed areas need wet-rated fans. Indoor fans won't hold up outside.
Can you install a fan on a vaulted ceiling?
Yes. We use the right downrod length and an angled mount so the fan hangs straight and clears the ceiling.
Will you assemble the fan?
Yes. Assembly, hanging, balancing and setting up controls are all part of the installation.
