What it is
Hardwired Under-Cabinet Lighting for Charleston Kitchens
Under-cabinet lighting mounts beneath your upper cabinets to light the countertop below. It gives you good task light for prep work, removes the shadows your ceiling lights leave on the counter, and makes a tile or stone backsplash look its best in the evening.
We install hardwired systems, meaning they're powered from your home's wiring and controlled from a wall switch or dimmer, with no plug-in cords or battery packs. LED drivers are hidden inside the cabinets or in an accessible spot, and the light sources are tucked behind the cabinet face frame so you see the light, not the fixture.
Under-cabinet lighting is one of our specialties, in new kitchens, during remodels, and as an upgrade in finished kitchens. We also light bars, butler's pantries, built-ins and display shelves.
Signs
Signs Your Kitchen Needs Under-Cabinet Lights
Under-cabinet lighting makes the most difference when:
- Your countertops are in your own shadow while you cook
- You rely on plug-in or battery lights that need recharging
- Your new backsplash disappears at night
- The kitchen feels dark even with the ceiling lights on
- You're remodeling and want lighting planned into the cabinets
- You want a soft night light in the kitchen without turning on the overheads
Options
Types of Under-Cabinet Lighting
The right style depends on your cabinets, your counters and the look you want. We'll help you choose.
LED Tape Light in Aluminum Channel
A continuous strip of LEDs set in a slim aluminum channel with a frosted lens. It gives the smoothest, most even line of light with no hot spots on glossy counters.
Best for: Modern kitchens, quartz and polished stone
LED Puck Lights
Small round fixtures spaced along the cabinet. They create soft pools of light and are also popular inside glass-front cabinets.
Best for: Traditional kitchens and display cabinets
LED Light Bars
Slim linear fixtures in set lengths with strong, even output, often linkable so a whole run works from one switch.
Best for: Bright task lighting at a good value
Dimmable and Color-Selectable Systems
Systems that let you dim the lights or choose the color temperature, from warm white to a crisper daylight look.
Best for: Kitchens that double as entertaining spaces

Timing
How Long It Takes
In most finished kitchens, a hardwired under-cabinet lighting install is completed in a single day. Larger kitchens, L- and U-shaped layouts, or jobs that need a new circuit or switch location can take a bit longer.
In new construction or a remodel, we run the wiring at rough-in and install the lights at trim-out, after the cabinets and counters are in.
Pricing
How Much Does Under-Cabinet Lighting Cost?
Under-cabinet lighting is quoted based on your kitchen. What affects the price:
- Total length of cabinet runs to be lit
- Fixture type (tape and channel, pucks or light bars) and quality
- Whether a new switch, dimmer or circuit is needed
- How easy it is to route wiring in a finished kitchen
- Driver location and how many separate runs need power
- Add-ons like in-cabinet or above-cabinet lighting
Send us a photo of your kitchen with the quote form, or call us, and we'll help you figure out the best option for your space.
Local know-how
Under-Cabinet Lighting for Charleston Kitchens
We see everything from compact kitchens in older West Ashley and North Charleston homes to large open-plan kitchens in new Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island builds. Smaller kitchens gain the most usable workspace from good task lighting, while open kitchens use under-cabinet light to tie the space together at night.
Warm white (around 2700K to 3000K) tends to suit the wood tones and creamy finishes common in Lowcountry kitchens, while crisper whites pair well with modern gray and white palettes.

Care and Maintenance
Wipe the lenses with a soft dry cloth when you clean the cabinets. Avoid spraying cleaner directly on fixtures.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you install under-cabinet lighting without tearing up my kitchen?
In most finished kitchens, yes. We route wiring through the cabinets and nearby walls and patch only where needed. We'll explain the plan before we start.
Is hardwired better than plug-in under-cabinet lighting?
Hardwired lights run from a wall switch, have no visible cords and don't tie up your countertop outlets. They look more finished and are more convenient day to day.
Can under-cabinet lights be dimmed?
Yes, with dimmable fixtures and a compatible dimmer. We match the dimmer to the LED driver so the lights dim smoothly without flicker.
What color temperature should I choose?
Most homeowners like warm white (about 2700K–3000K) for a cozy look. Cooler whites look crisp with modern finishes. We can show you samples.
Do you install lighting in glass cabinets and bars too?
Yes. We install in-cabinet, above-cabinet, bar and built-in shelf lighting as well.
