What it is
Electrical Outlet and Switch Installation for Charleston Homes
Outlets and switches are the parts of your electrical system you use every day, and they're often the first things to show their age. Loose outlets, two-prong receptacles, missing GFCI protection and switches that spark or feel warm are all reasons to call an electrician.
We add new outlets where you need more power, replace worn or outdated devices, install GFCI protection in kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, garages and outdoors, and upgrade switches to dimmers, three-way switches and smart controls.
This work is also a common add-on during lighting installs and remodels, so it's easy to bundle into one visit.
Signs
Signs Your Outlets or Switches Need Work
Call us if you notice:
- Plugs fall out of loose outlets
- Outlets or switch plates feel warm or look discolored
- Sparks, buzzing or a burning smell at a device
- Two-prong outlets with no ground
- No GFCI protection near sinks, tubs or outdoors
- Extension cords and power strips everywhere because there aren't enough outlets

Timing
How Long It Takes
Replacing outlets and switches is quick, often several devices in an hour or two. Adding new outlets in finished walls takes longer, depending on how far the wire has to run and whether a new circuit is needed.
Most outlet and switch jobs are finished in a single visit.
Pricing
How Much Does Outlet or Switch Installation Cost?
We quote outlet and switch work by the job. What affects the price:
- Number of devices
- Replacement in an existing box vs. a brand-new location
- Device type (standard, GFCI, USB, smart, dimmer)
- Whether a new circuit or wire run is needed
- Wall construction and access
- Outdoor or wet-location requirements
Make a list of what you'd like done and give us a call. Grouping several devices into one visit is the most efficient way to get it all done.
Local know-how
Outlets and Switches in Charleston-Area Homes
Older homes around Charleston, particularly those built before grounded outlets became standard, often still have two-prong outlets. Simply swapping in a three-prong outlet without a ground isn't a safe fix; we'll explain the proper options for your home.
With the area's outdoor living, weather-resistant GFCI outlets with in-use covers are a must for porches, patios, docks and outdoor kitchens.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you add an outlet to a finished wall?
Yes. We fish the wire through the wall from a nearby circuit or run a new circuit if needed, usually with little or no patching.
Where are GFCI outlets required?
Generally in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, garages, unfinished basements, crawlspaces and outdoors. We'll make sure your home has protection where it's needed.
Can I replace two-prong outlets with three-prong outlets?
Not without a ground or GFCI protection. We'll explain the safe, code-compliant options for your home.
Do you install smart switches?
Yes. We install smart switches and dimmers and make sure they're compatible with your wiring and lights.
Why does my dimmer make my LED lights flicker?
Usually the dimmer isn't compatible with the LED bulbs or fixture. We can install an LED-rated dimmer to fix it.
